Prospective members are invited to attend the first rehearsal of the season in early September. During the first rehearsal, prospective members can "audition" the Chorus before deciding upon membership. If you decide to audition, the Membership Chair will be pleased to help you start the process.
Sometimes there is also an audition date scheduled in early January so please contact us. However, membership runs from September through May so prospective members are urged to investigate Masterwork for a September entrance.
Each prospective member should contact The Masterwork Chorus at (973) 455-7008 to schedule an audition and receive an application form. The audition is an opportunity for the Music Director and the Chorus staff to meet prospective members and answer questions. The Music Director is the sole assessor of vocal abilities.
The Music Director listens for a healthily-produced, resonant tone which is even in quality throughout the range. The candidate should be able to sing pure vowels and to vary the volume without distorting vowel, pitch, or tone quality. Strong rhythmic and pitch skills are vital. See auditions for details. After the audition, the Membership Chair will contact the prospective members with the results. Upon successful completion of the audition, the new member then has one week to submit payment of dues based on the established payment schedule. We encourage prospective members to discuss our dues structure with the Membership chair prior to or during the audition process.
The Masterwork Chorus rehearses every Wednesday evening from 7:30pm to 10:00pm beginning in early September and concluding in May. Rehearsals are held in Xavier Center, on the campus of the College of Saint Elizabeth, 2 Convent Road, Convent Station, New Jersey (click here for direction). Attendance at rehearsal is mandatory and absences should be discussed with the Membership chair and the Music Director.
