Community Outreach
Community Outreach is an important part of the Masterwork Chorus’s mission to enrich our local communities through music. Some activities that Masterwork offers are community sings and a program called ReachOut! in which Masterwork singers bring short concerts to hospital patients and residents in assisted living facilities, followed by a sing-a-long activity in which residents may join with the choir in singing through favorite songs.
Community Sings
Masterwork’s annual series of Summer Sings in June and July and its Messiah Sing in December offer an opportunity for all choral enthusiasts to join in singing through classics of the choral literature.
ReachOut!
ReachOut! is a deceptively simple community project. We sing for and with groups of infirm and elderly people. But it’s not really simple; it’s magic.
The smiles on the faces of both the audience and the singers illustrate the wonderful, transformative power of music. That’s why we are happy to do it twice a year at a variety of venues: rehabilitiation facilities, assisted living facilities, hospitals, and nursing homes.
The ReachOut! repertoire is quite diverse, ranging from pop to Broadway, to spirituals, to folk and even to classical. But as much as we enjoy making music for our audience, they delight in joining us in a rousing sing along at the end of each concert.
It’s rewarding to see the immense joy we bring by the simple act of sharing music. That is the magic.
Since the ReachOut! program began in 1999, the chorus has visited more than 30 facilities, entertaining more that 5,000 people in Morris, Essex, Somerset and Warren Counties. ReachOut! concerts are offered free of charge, although donations are gratefully accepted.
