Carol Walker
Carol Walker, Masterwork’s regular accompanist since November of 2007, was a high school choral teacher for 32 years before retiring in 2008. She continues her active association with various high schools and related organizations in northern NJ, serving as accompanist, musical director and choral director, and as a member of the adjunct faculty of William Paterson University. She has also been in demand as musical director for dozens of amateur and professional theater groups, including summer stock and dinner theaters in NJ, PA, NY, and CT. For many years she was choir director and organist in churches in NJ and NY.
Carol graduated summa cum laude from Montclair State College with a degree in Music Education, majoring in piano, voice, and harp.
During her teaching career she was honored to be selected to conduct the All-North Jersey Region I High School Women’s Chorus, Junior Region I Treble Chorus, and the All-Sussex County High School Honors Choir. She served as Choral Division Chairperson for the North Jersey School Music Association for 10 years, and for three years also sat on the New Jersey All-State Choral Procedures Committee.
In 2003 she was a recipient of the Passaic County Governor’s Award as Teacher of the Year.
During the summers Carol toured Europe as an accompanist and choir director with American Music Abroad, a company that arranges concert tours for high school students.
In recent years, Carol has branched out from her classical training, pursuing folk music interests with her Appalachian mountain dulcimer and Celtic harp. Since 2002 she has been an active member of the Pennsylvania-based folk group, Wayfarers & Company, for which she adds vocals and plays upright bass, piano, harp, and dulcimer.
A book of dulcimer arrangements, Tailless Tunes, along with her first CD, Alas! The Horse Is Gone, were completed in 2010. Both feature Manx music — traditional tunes from the Isle of Man — arranged for dulcimer, piano, guitar, harp, fiddle, and whistle.
Carol is married to professional guitarist Toby Walker, and enjoys touring with him as his Executive Roadie.
